Dive into Inquiry Amplify Learning and Empower Student Voice Trevor MacKenzie Books Reviews
- We absolutely LOVE Dive into Inquiry!! We purchased a team set and used the author's bookclub prompts for our collaborative inquiry (find these on Trevor's website). These provided an awesome framework for our reading and adopting of inquiry into our school. Some highlights for us were Trevor's use of examples from his classroom. As a full-time practicing teacher we felt ensured that what we were reading held strength and was not just applicable but achievable. There is an element of theory to the work but what really makes the resource stand out is his touching narrative combined with his practical examples and powerful structures. Although middle and high school focused we see many connections to the elementary classroom throughout the book from his scaffolded approach, to his use of particular structures to support success, to philosophy on personalized learning. His graphics are great (and also free on his website) so be sure to check them out and use them with your students. We've read a bunch of inquiry resources and although they all were helpful Dive into Inquiry stood out to us as the most powerful and change provoking of all. Definitely worthy of our investment of time and money and highly recommended as a team read.
- @trev_mackenzie has an excellent book in “Dive Into Inquiryâ€. If you or your school are trying to change the way teachers teach as well as find a better way to motivate students and keep them engaged, this is the book for you. In “Dive Into Inquiryâ€, MacKenzie shows you how Inquiry Based Learning (IBL) brings a personalized and real-life focus into the classroom. He walks you through transitioning from the traditional classroom to one in which students have ownership and see the real-life application of what they are learning. MacKenzie explains the 4 types of inquiry to gradually release responsibility from the teacher to the students as well as sharing 4 pillars that will help to get students started. Finally, he shows you specific examples of students who have gone through the process of IBL. The examples are heartwarming, amazing, and I imagine what anyone in the field of education hopes for their students. Transform your classroom and your learners and pick up this book!
- Dive Into Inquiry is a fabulous book written by Trevor Mackenzie. Although it was written with a secondary classroom as the focus, I was still able to apply his advice, understanding and strategies about an inquiry approach to learning in a primary setting. A well written book that will leave you inspired to foster the passions and curiosities of the learners in your classroom.
- I would love to do inquiry based learning, but I struggle with how to do so in my English classroom. He gives an awesome plan and ideas for how to implement this.
- This book has changed the way I do teaching. Thank your for giving me the guidance I needed to do something more purposeful with my students. I can not recommend this book more highly. If you want to find a way out of the textbook and into purposeful learning this is the book for you!
- Dive into Inquiry is a must read for educators. It is packed full of resources & graphics that can be implemented immediately. As a former EdRising Director and former Early Childhood Educator teacher, I wish this had been around to incorporate into curriculum for Pre-service teachers!
- Although have taught for several years, this is my first year teaching 7th Language Arts. "Dive into Inquiry" is helping me so much.
- Fantastic resource for all teachers! Trevor passionately shares his journey of transforming both his own and his students mindset to one of inquiry learning. He shares both his own learning and that of his students and gives educators the steps needed to begin their inquiry journey and ignite a passion for learning in students of all ages!
