Can You Be Gay and Christian? Responding With Love and Truth to Questions About Homosexuality Michael L Brown PhD 9781621365938 Books Reviews

  • I couldn't put this book down. It's so theologically rich, beyond just the question of homosexuality, although it covers that topic very thoroughly. I found Dr. Brown's approach and arguments to be widely applicable to other topics as well. I highly recommend this book.
  • Scripture looked at from the side of a conservative Christian scholar and from gay scholars. This is a great resource to help understand a very polarized life situation in our world that every person alive will have to deal with at some point.
  • I am moved by the love and care Mr. Brown has taken in this great effort to communicate God's truth in scripture regarding this topic. We are all too easily swept up in a lie when we don't know what the truth is.

I had already reached many of these same conclusions based on what I was reading in scripture myself, but I still wrestled with the real-world application of these things in a way that really demonstrates love without throwing the law at people.

I have heard both Christian and non-Christian alike stand on the opposing side of this discussion, because neither has really dug in to know what God's word says. Mr. Brown has provided a valuable tool that will allow you to do just that.

But as the author asks plainly, are you willing and prepared to "see your sin through the lens of scripture, or do you intend to look at scripture through the lens of your sin?" [paraphrased]

If you claim to know God and struggle with (or give into) same-sex attraction, you need to read this book!

If you claim to know God and know someone else who struggles with their sexuality, this book is for you. Without understanding, you will never have the discernment to meet the lies head-on or speak in a truly loving manner to someone battling with this lifestyle.

Love and Truth. It's gotta be both, together always.
  • Very loving, clear book. The first two chapters had me in tears. The author helps any dogmatic anti-homosexual Christians see the reality and seriousness of what we're dealing with. He gives your real stories and names. You cannot just judge people from a distance. And he very lovingly addresses the issue.
  • This book must be in the hands of every Pastor teacher Bible student and lamon. It is absolutely essential training has we see the rise of LGBTQIA+ in America. We must be armed and ready to combat the dangerous lie that the Triune God must be made subservient to our desires and bend His Word to what we want. We are called to surrender ourselves to Christ and not the other way around. Dr. Michael Brown does an excellent job of shining a light in a dark place. You will be shocked, horrified, enraged, and weep with compassion. This book is an effective tool to reach out to the lost with the truth of the Gospel to let them know that they can have hope even in the midst of same-sex attraction.
  • I finished up this book last night, and I must say it was an eye-opener. Most of us know the SCOTUS ruling on marriage last year opened Pandora's Box to everything we now are being forced to deal with. Author, Dr. Michael Brown, truly burdened for the LGBT community, exposes what lies behind their desperate need for affirmation. On the surface, what seems harmless--letting people simply love whomever they want--is really a path to destruction. Dr. Brown points out that we are not defined by our sexual identity, explains the difference between judging and being judgmental, warns of the danger of interpreting Scripture based on our experience, and demonstrates how those who insist on attaching "Christian" to their sin turn God's Word upside down in shocking and despicable ways. This was most upsetting to me as I found myself in tears with the author as he exposes a distorted theology "driven by desire," a total affront to our pure, holy God and Savior. While your righteous anger will be kindled, you will also realize anew that we "wrestle not against flesh and blood" alone (Eph. 612), and that the spiritual battle taking place demands fervent prayer. Dr. Brown reveals the false choice the LGBT community challenges the church with (to affirm or condemn) and encourages the reader to draw the line where God draws it in His Word while having compassion for people who are struggling with desires contrary to God's design. He answers the question in the book title, reminding the reader "moral behavior, like all human conduct, is a choice" and denial of self (Luke 923-25) and the laying aside of sin (Hebrews 121) is necessary to follow Christ in pursuit a life of holiness.
  • A very good read for all Christians that care for all of God's creation.
  • The author gave the gay argument for gays being Christians, but he gave a good argument for the traditional view of homosexuality as sin, supported by Scripture.
