Bloom 50 Things to Say Think and Do with Anxious Angry and OvertheTop Kids Lynne Kenney Wendy Young 9781936268825 Books Reviews
- Dr. Kenney is on a mission to help elementary school kids develop self-regulation, executive and critical thinking skills.
THIS IS IMPORTANT because
1. It's a game-changer to help kids learn in school.
2. It prepares a child's brain with a foundation of such skills before the second wave of development in the prefrontal cortex, which begins at puberty. Children who have had the benefit of Dr. Kenney's classroom enrichment will have a HUGE advantage as teenagers.
You will be amazed at the many practical Say, Think and Do prompts that are included in this volume. It's revolutionary.
Get the book and give it to your child's teacher. - This book was ok, there are several neat and original ideas for working with kids emotions, but I think there are other parenting books, like the Whole Brain Child, for example, that do a better job. If you are already generally into non punitive discipline this book won't have too much new info.
- I have a child with generalized anxiety and difficulty self soothing/calming himself down especially at school. He has not been through any significant "trauma" nor is he aggressive (definitely never been a "biter"), and he doesn't have separation anxiety. I found this book title misleading as it seems to apply mostly to a certain set of situations rather than generally "anxious, angry, and over-the-top kids" as the title states.
- By far the best book I have read on parenting. It is an easy read and everything in the book makes total sense. Easy to implement and profoundly helpful for my son that just does things a bit differently and does not fit inside the typical 7 year old mold.
- Bloom 50 Things to Say, Think and Do with Anxious, Angry and Over the Top Kids was a purchase I made for work and it has paid off. I am able to help parents with some of the difficult behaviors they are experience when parenting. The book is very straightforward and breaks behaviors down by chapter. There are little cue cards for reference on how to respond when in a difficult or trying situation with young ones. It is helpful quick reference tool for professionals working with families and a great guide for parents to utilize on their own. I'd recommend it.
- I am so thankful for the practical accessible advice in this book! Stay strong fellow parents😉 And check out Dr. Lynne Kenney's resources. I've found them very helpful!
- I work with kids with challenging behaviors and families. Sometimes it is more difficult to work with the parents. This book offers helpful advice for me to give the parents to help their children.
