- I'm an American who has lived part time in France for years. Janet Hulstrand really nails it in this book. She focuses on the important cultural differences we need to understand to get the most out of dealing with French people. Her tone is appreciative, respectful, and her analysis is inciteful.

Because I’ve visited Paris annually for the past 20 years, I already knew some of the things she discusses in this book, but was happy to read someone else’s descriptions of the topics. And of course I learned some new things too. I recommend “Demystifying the French†to all travelers to France, but especially to budding francophiles who have visited France several times and intend to go again. And again. And again...

- This does not qualify as a book in my opinion...War and Peace is a book, Flirting with French is a book, this is maybe a short story or long essay. I read this document in about an hour and learned nothing new. The author references every other book on the French people, the language and culture as well as warns us of the usual “bad†words we should recognize but not use. Maybe I’ve read too many of these types of books but I found nothing new or especially interesting here.
- I had hoped for orignal ideas regarding demystifying the French but, instead, the ideas were mainly recycled ones from other writers. The ones that were more or less original seemed obvious . I finished the book, but wouldn't recommend it.
- I have taught French for many years in the US, I wish I would have known this book when I was introducing my students to the French culture! The reading was pleasant and entertaining and the descriptions of French idiosyncrasies so accurate. A useful book if you are going to France...
