Thundering Sneakers Southwestern Writers Collection Series Prudence Mackintosh 9780292752696 Books Reviews
- Loved it in the eighties, when my three sons were young and I was still married to my attorney husband in a southern city (sound familiar?) and I loved it again after finding the books on ! (The first time I got them from the library)
The three books in this series should be required reading for mothers of three boys.....in fact, pediatricians should GIVE these mothers the set at the birth of the third.....to give her time enough to finish reading them before the youngest is off to college (who has time to READ??)!
There's comfort in knowing that being outnumbered four to one by people who think opposite from you is not fatal afterall.....my three are in their 30's now... we all survived the experience...If I can do it, you can, too!
Thanks, Ms MacIntosh....maybe someday I'll be able to truly LAUGH at Thundering Sneakers! - I read this book in 1985 when I was pregnant with my 3rd child. After having 2 boys, I felt I needed some psychological preparation. Ms. Mackintosh was a contributing writer to Texas Monthly and I had read her essays.
Well, I had a girl, and was almost disappointed because Ms. Mackintosh had so thoroughly celebrated her life in a household of men, I felt like maybe I would miss out. Well, I didn't....and for anyone with sons -- especially only sons - this book is a must read. The sequel, RETREADS, follows on the theme. Enjoy parenting with someone who really has perfected the heart of a parent as she shares the adventures and small joys of life in a home. Lighthearted and poignant, it's truly a treasure. - ITS A VERY GOOD BOOK AND REALLY FUNNY I LIKED IT ALOT THAT IS WHY I GAVE IT FOUR STARS.ITS A DELIGHTFUL READ ANOTHER HILARIOUS BOOK ABOUT LIFE WITH BOYS ALL BOYS. I LIKED IT SO VERY MUCH I AM GOING TO BUY THE OTHER TWO BOOKS SHE WROTE ABOUT DREW WILL AND JACK AND JOHN THE DADDY.I THINK ANYONE WHO READS THIS HILARIOUS BOOK WILL LAUGH OUT LOUD LIKE I DID. ALOT,
- I haven't read this yet but my friend did and said it was so cute .
- This was such a great book. One of the nurses at the hospital, upon hearing that I was to have a third boy, recommended this book to me. I am so glad I purchased it! It pretty much covers all the bases of life as a mother raising sons. Mackintosh writes with a keen wit and honesty that makes it so enjoyable and relatable. Also, it was interesting to see what has changed in parenting (leaving children in the car while you shop, driving with a mattress in the backseat for the children to nap) since the 1970's, but so much remains the same. Didn't want to put this one down. A must for any mother with boys!
- An author who can make you laugh out loud on every other page. With mundane, everyday, life with 3 boys. She's right, there is a "special place in heaven" for the mother of 3 boys.
- Great book for those that have a house full of boys.
- Did I write that previous review? Early 80s, 3 boys, testosterone EVERYWHERE.... that was MY life. My sons are in their 30s, have the most wonderful wives on the planet, and I couldn't possibly be prouder. But as they start to have children of their own, I'll give my daughters-in-law a copy of this book this COULD happen to you too! Its an hilarious look at life with children, particularly boys, and all of the absurdities that arise on a daily basis.
